Menard qualifies 14th for Atlanta event.

Paul Menard, the lone Wisconsin racer in the Monster NASCAR Cup Series looked to shrug off a great weekend that ended up with a disappointing finish at NASCAR with a solid outing in qualifying at the Atlanta Motor Speedway Friday afternoon.

Menard posted a best lap time of 30.908 seconds in his #21 Wood Brothers Racing Ford Mustang, good enough for 14th best in the 37-car field, just under .4 seconds off the pole pace of Aric Almirola from the Stewart/Haas race team, also in a Mustang.

Qualifying is in the books as of Friday (Feb. 22) but the drivers will get one last shakedown at 11 a.m. (CST) Saturday in their Final Practice, before both the Xfinity (Rinnai 250) and Gander Outdoors Truck Series (Ultimate Tailgating 200) take to the track for their events.

The Folds of Honor Quick Trip 500 is scheduled to go green on Sunday at 1 p.m. (CST)
