After a slow start, Paul Menard worked his way back to a 15th place finish in his Wood Brothers #21 Motorcraft/Quick Lane Mustang on Sunday at the Pennzoil 400 held at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Menard started on the eighth row but dropped back outside the top 30 almost immediately after the start of the race.
He pushed his way back through the field and sat 17th at the end of the first 80-lap session with superb driving and a nice strategy that seen him go out of order on pit stops, staying out while others pitted early and taking just two tires instead of four when he did come in.
He briefly ran in the top five before his first pit stop and the team implemented the same strategy through the second stint which ended with him in 16th spot.
Despite some damage to the car in the second stint, the crew got him out repaired and on time to move up one more spot in the final stage for a 15th place finish that helped him jump to 20th in the overall driver points standings.
The race win at Vegas went to Joey Logano.
Next race for Menard will be the Ticket Guardian 500 at ISM Speedway in Phoenix, AZ
