Decker among final 28 in WSeries Competition
Natalie Decker, 21 of Eagle River will be one of an elite group of racers from across the planet selected to take part in an awesome but brutally competitive group known as the WSeries.
Decker has already made the cut from an original group of 54 racers from five continents down to a 28-driver shortlist after a four-day test session in Austria in street cars.
Decker made the first cut and that will raise the bar for her when she returns to Spain at the end of the month for another test. This time in the Series’ Tatuus T-318 made to FIA F3 Chassis specifications with a four-cylinder turbocharged 270 hp. Powerplant and featuring the halo safety device introduced into the Formula 1 series last season.
Decker is one of three Americans in the group, joining Sabre Cook, 24 from Grand Junction, Colo. Who enters the series with a bigtime karting background having advanced to formula cars and sports cars and Shea Holbrook, 28, from Groveland Fla., who has taken part in nearly every discipline of racing from SCCA Regional and National to Touring Car, GT Racing and more recently IHRA Nitro Drag Racing.
In an article on her website, Decker said she was thrilled to be involved in the series adding it’s a rare opportunity in racing to be invited to not only take part in an all expenses paid event, but also get a chance to compete for part of a $1.5 million prize fund.
The plum for the racers that are selected to the final group of 18 will be a chance to race on some of the best historic circuits in Europe, beginning at Hockenheim, Germany and wrapping up at Brands Hatch in the UK, both facilities that have hosted Formula 1 Events.
